Short Biography
Dr. Purity Kathure Miriti is an accomplished lecturer, researcher, and communication scholar at theĀ University of Embu, Kenya, with extensive academic and professional experience in journalism, media, and communication studies. She has served in academia for several years and has taught at reputable institutions of higher learning, including theĀ Multimedia University of KenyaĀ andĀ Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.
Dr. Miriti is committed to innovative, learner-centred pedagogy and embraces interactive teaching approaches that encourage critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, active participation, and practical application of knowledge. Her teaching and academic interests span diverse areas of journalism and communication, contributing to the development of studentsā analytical, research, and professional competencies.
She holds aĀ Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)Ā degree fromĀ Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT)Mass Communication and aĀ Master of Arts (MA) in Communication StudiesĀ from theĀ University of Nairobi. Her research interests includeĀ teacher-student communication and teenage pregnancies, with particular interest in communication processes, educational interactions, and social issues affecting young people and communities.
Dr. Miriti is an active member of theĀ East African Communication Association (EACA)Ā and values interdisciplinary engagement, professional networking, and collaborative scholarship. She has cultivated productive relationships with academics, professionals, and organisations, both within Kenya and beyond, contributing to knowledge exchange and professional development in the communication field.
Her commitment to mentorship and leadership extends beyond the university. InĀ May 2024, she served as aĀ mentor at the Africa Women Summit in Nairobi, where she shared her expertise and supported initiatives focused on empowering and inspiring women.
