BACHELOR OF ARTS IN CRIMINOLOGY AND SECURITY

Admission Requirements for the Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Security

a)    The general University admission requirement for a Bachelor’s degree shall apply.
b)    To be eligible for admission, applicants shall satisfy the minimum entry requirements as stipulated in the University statutes, which are at least a C+ grade aggregate in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or its equivalent.

Admission will be granted to diploma holders who have at least a Credit or its equivalent in Criminology or Police Science from institutions recognized by the University of Embu Senate. Diploma holders may qualify for Credit transfer to the programme as stipulated by University of Embu Statutes.

Duration of Study
Four (4) academic years

Expected learning outcomes

By the end of the course, the learner should be able to:
1.    Take up responsibilities in the dynamic security industry.
2.    Demonstrate leadership in the area of community policing
3.    Use the knowledge and skills acquired to take up entrepreneurial roles in the country and internationally
4.    Conduct research in criminology and security field.

Course requirements.
A total of 52 courses are required for graduation with a Bachelor of Criminology and Security Management (BHSM) which includes the attachment and project which is equivalent to four (4) courses.

Requirements for graduation

A total of 52 Courses are required for graduation with BACHELOR OF CRIMINOLOGY AND SECURITY MANAGEMENT (BHSM). Grades from industrial attachments/Internship will only serve as graduation requirements but will not be used in the calculation of the final grade.

At graduation, students’ overall performance will be classified as follows:
A         First Class Honours
B         Second Class Honours (Upper Division)
C         Second Class Honours (Lower Division)
D        Pass
