Short Biography

Born in Kakamega, Western region of Kenya , Dr. Steve Wakhu, joined the University of Embu in September 2020. He holds a Doctor of Social Science (Dr. rer. Pol, 2020). and a Master of Public Policy in International Conflict Studies and Conflict Management (MPP, 2014); both from the University of Erfurt in Germany. He studied his bachelors degree in Sociology and Economics at Moi University in Kenya (BA, 2003). His doctoral research ‘Counterterrorism in Sub-Saharan Africa: Conditions for Human Rights’ aimed to establish the minimum macro-social conditions necessary to facilitate or impede human rights in sub-Saharan Africa when governments respond to terrorism with counterterrorism policies. Dr. Wakhu is a double (2012, 2016) scholar of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)/Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst. Previously, he worked as a Consultant Sociologist for the Karamoja Water Harvesting Pilot Project funded and implemented by the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) within the Karamoja cluster in Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and South Sudan (2004) and as a Consultant Sociologist for the ‘Supporting Community Projects in the Design and Implementation of Output-Based Aid (OBA) project implemented by the Athi Water Services Board (AWSB) and funded by World Bank-funded (2005). He also worked as the National Programme Manager (2015) for the Improvement of Prison and Probation Services program, a 3-year bilateral program between the governments of Kenya (Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government) and Sweden (Swedish Prison and Probation Service - SPPS).
