Research Interests
I am interested in language contact, maintenance, shift, vitality, endangerment and death with particular reference to African indigenous languages. Another area of interest is critical language study with an emphasis on how language produces and reproduces power relations and social inequalities. My interest also extends to how the marginalized manifest voice (agency) to resist abusive or unequal power relations in discourse. Thus, I regard questions of identity and ideology and how they are embedded in language use to be fundamental. Lastly, I like to engage on how linguistics intersects with literature with particular focus on how it can be used to provide new insights into literature.
